Online Counselling

Over the 25 years I have worked as a counsellor I have done many sessions online by Skype, Zoom, Whatsapp, FaceTime or Duo. Presently due to social distancing I am now only doing online counselling. If you work with me when social distancing ends you can continue with online counselling or see me face to face in Leamington Spa if you prefer.

I know many people worry that online counselling is less effective than face to face. Having worked with both methods I know that the online work I do with clients is equally effective to face to face.

Online counselling can help with many issues including:

  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Loss
  • Relationships
  • Work Related Issues
  • Anger

Basically online counselling can deal with anything face to face work addresses. At this time many people are feeling anxious, confused, overwhelmed, unhappy or isolated. Many people are struggling with their relationships or worried about their jobs and financial security. Whether you are struggling with something specific to these traumatic times or need to deal with a longterm or unresolved issue in your life, online counselling provides a confidential, effective way forward.

How to prepare for distance counselling

There is so much fear and confusion at the moment I want to make sure you feel fully informed about distance counselling. Please forgive me if this sounds patronising but I know that many people haven’t used these methods before.

Once you contact me, if appropriate we can book an online session. We agree a good time and discuss which platform to use and how to use it. This is important as they can vary in what needs to happen for us to connect for a session. Do not worry if you are unsure about these methods as I will try my best to guide you through them.

At the first session you contact me at the agreed time for a 60 minute session. The first session is called an assessment session. In this session I will ask you questions about why you have come to counselling and what you want. At this point, or any other time, feel free to ask me any questions you have. If we decide to continue after this initial session we book in more times.

There are a few things you can do to optimise your online counselling experience. Try and make sure you are in a private location, maybe your bedroom and that people know not to disturb you. Make sure the room is well lit so I can see you and see if you can position the video of you so that I can see at least from your waist up if possible. Turn on the audio and video on your device and then choose the method you are going to use. I find Zoom the easiest for my clients but am happy to work with any of the listed ways. They are all pretty straight forward but please do ask if you feel unsure about what to do and I will try my best to help.

Payment can be made by bank transfer.

If you use Zoom and some of the other methods, they should be free for the actual session but please check.
